Only reason I felt compelled to comment. First-gen Gallardos are starting to look more attractive.

....NO we have to stop talking about this.

So how was your day?

Kinja'd!!!1

Haha we both keep thinking the 2nd gen car is the only way to go but then thinking the first gen is still pretty cool cause cheaper and still comes in nice blues. I have this internal debate with myself at least 30 times a day. I want to do some research on exactly all the changes to the 2nd gen car but I banned myself from doing that, at least today.

Haha trying to not talk about awesome cars on Oppo is impossible. We would all need to agree on alternate convo topics to avoid awkward internet small talk.

Trying to think of other hobbies I have that other people might share. There is cars. Then after cars there is. Hmm. Um.

Thinking

Thinking

Thinking

Oh I like watching football. But the season is over.

So yeah, there is only cars right now!

oh i just thought of something that happened today that wasn't Gallardo related at least

i was driving a little bit ago and saw a very aggressive looking 4 series coming at me

it was the first time i've seen a non-standard 4 series

i was able to see the back and see that it was no M4, but an 435i M Sport

it got me excited to see the new M4 in the flesh. the 435i M Sport looks so much better than a standard 4 Series or a standard 3 Series

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari

Kinja'd!!!1

Oh no! I don't follow football at all. I watch it sometimes to entertain myself, but that's about it.

Do you watch F1? No? Ok.

Thinking......

I thought of a way to talk about cars without bankrupting you!

Maybe my dad will let me buy a used Boxster/Cayman because of his previous good experience and his love of the brand. What do you think?

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/16/2014 at 22:40

Kinja'd!!!2

I saw a regular 4 series in beige at a dealership, quite boring. But seeing pictures with the M sport make it look so much better.

Kinja'd!!!1

Oh yeah I like F1! I like to watch live though cause spoilers. And sometimes it's hard to catch it live.

I FULLY SUPPORT YOUR PLAN!

If your Dad would be OK with going used for a Boxster/Cayman then that would be amazing.

What would the budget be?

I would love a gallardo in blue such as above, I'd paint the wheels white though :D

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 07:52

Kinja'd!!!2

I always try to watch F1 live as well.

And the budget is probably capped around $25k

....But I'm still highly doubtful about it. A new car is still what I'm most likely to buy.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 18:38

Kinja'd!!!1

The regular one is very boring. What the hell is the point of a boring mid-level coupe? A big coupe like a 6 Series is allowed to be understated (though I still like the M6 or M Sport 6er way better, but I can't fault those who want an understated large coupe). But the 4 Series is mid size and mid price. It should always look sporty.

If I ran BMW I would kill the regular 4 Series. All non-M4 cars would have the M Sport look by default. And the M4 would look more wild. It would have a carbon fiber splitter. Not a really huge one, but a tasteful looking one. The fender flares would be a bit wider. And the rear end would be revised.

The 3 Series and M3 can be more pedestrian looking. They are the sedans. All versions of the 4 Series should be more balls to the wall crazy than their 3 Series counterpart. Or else what is the point of sacrificing rear leg room and rear head room? The sedans aren't really that much heavier. The coupes should be a lot crazier than they are.

Kinja'd!!!1

dude a used base Cayman for $25K would be perfect.

who cares if it's not the fastest in a straight line. it's a P car!

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 18:42

Kinja'd!!!2

I think the 3 Series is now completely pointless. The 4 Series Gran Coupe looks so much cooler, therefore rendering the now boring-looking 3 series useless. Also, DAT Lightly optioned 2011 Black Base Manual Carrera.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 18:45

Kinja'd!!!1

it's my car with way less miles!

i don't think the 3 series is useless because it has the middle back seat. the 4 series gran coupe doesn't have that, does it?

the middle seat isn't comfortable but helps in a pinch!

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 18:48

Kinja'd!!!1

I have no idea if it has it. The 6 Series has it, I just checked. On the topic of the Porsche, I'd love to have a Cayman, but I'm very confident that my dad won't let me buy a non-CPO one (if one at all). It's the sad truth.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 18:58

Kinja'd!!!1

the 6 series grand coupemobile has a middle seat in the back? interesting. i thought for a 4 door car to be considered a coupe it has to have a sloped rear window and 2 big bucket seats in the bakc.

CPO would be the best way to go

is that doable for $25K?

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 19:01

Kinja'd!!!2

In like 3 years they definitely will be great buys. You should get one of those and a Gallar-

NO.......can't...talk about it.

Maybe I should just save my money and get a Fiesta 1.0L. If the ST didn't exist that would be the new car I'd buy.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 19:23

Kinja'd!!!1

Haha we have a new term:

GallardNO

Hmm you gave me a great idea for you.

Let's say your Dad approves the cost of the Fiesta ST. Would he also agree to getting you a cheaper and more pedestrian car and then giving you cash for the delta?

You could get the cheapest Kia around and save money to later get a used Cayman.

I really do think there is value to getting a slow car when you're young. It takes time to get mature enough to handle power. And the FiestaST has as much power as more expensive sports cars had 15 years ago.

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 19:28

Kinja'd!!!1

I'm not sure I follow the "delta" aspect of what you're talking about. And I don't like Kias.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 19:36

Kinja'd!!!1

I was just saying that if he would be cool with buying you a super cheap car and giving you cash for the difference between that car's price and the FiestaST then you could save the money, work hard, and trade in the POS for a porsche in a few years

I don't like Kias either. But it wouldn't be about the Kia. The car would just be transportation. It would later be sacrificed for a P car.

You'd lose less money when trading it in later for 2 reasons:

1. The FiestaST will probably depreciate harder than a super cheap econobox. Reason is that everyone is worried that affordable performance cars are hooned to shit by their owners.

2. Even if the two cars depreciated at the same percentage the total depreciation would be less on the cheaper car.

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 19:43

Kinja'd!!!1

That's a great plan.

But, my dad isn't going to be buying me a car until 4 years from now when I graduate college.

Until then , I need to buy a car with my own money to use for those 4 years. Must be used. I can only afford up to a Fiesta ST. Must be new. I'm down to three choices:

Abarth 500 (it's basically a Ferrari bro)

Fiesta 1.0L (probably my best bet if your plan is considered)

Fiesta ST (the most fun)

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 19:55

Kinja'd!!!1

Oh I see. Ok so you need to buy a cheap car now, but are allowed to buy used because you are the one paying for it. Then in 4 years he will spend $25K on a car but would prefer it be new or at least a good brand and CPO. It's all a bit confusing but starting to make sense!

Are there even any used Fiesta ST's on the market? Aren't they pretty new? Wouldn't you pay close to new prices?

I read sad things about the Fiat 500's crash safety. I want to like the Abarth cause it's basically a Ferrari. But I think the Fords and Minis are safer to be in.

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 19:58

Kinja'd!!!1

Almost, but completely wrong!

I need to buy a car now with my own money, but it must be new. I can only afford a car up to $25k.

In 4 years my dad will buy me a car, and I have no idea what the price cap is. And Abarths are probably horribly dangerous in a country full of SUVs, you're right.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 20:00

Kinja'd!!!1

ohhhh

hmm maybe you should go FiestaST since you don't know what the price cap will be in 4 years. even if it depreciates a lot you might be OK cause there will be some trade in value and your dad might be so proud of you that he sets a $50K cap!

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 20:02

Kinja'd!!!1

HA! I wish! I assume he'll set it at $30k, plus the Fiesta will probably be worth at least $10k, so $40k is probably what I'm looking at in 4 years.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 20:08

Kinja'd!!!0

by then inflation will make the Fiesta ST $40K!

I have only sat in one (car show). Never been in one while moving.

If the safety ratings are decent for a car that small (haven't looked up myself) I say go for it!

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari

I've sat in one also, they're cool little cars. As long as I have the Rusto stamp of approval, the Fiesta purchasing event is go! I still need to wait until May, however, because they won't let cars on campus for freshmen.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 20:23

Kinja'd!!!0

i honestly can't think of a better car brand new for the money

the BRZ is more money

it has to be the best value, right?

and i saw ford just announced 0% financing plus $500 bonus cash for the Fiesta ST

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 20:28

Kinja'd!!!0

Everyone says the BRZ is really slow, and those incentives are really attractive. However, I won't bet buying the car for another few months so I hope they stay available.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 20:32

Kinja'd!!!1

BRZ isn't slow, it's a perfect first sports car.

It's a hell of a deal. You basically get the same performance of an old 3 Series without having to deal with owning an old 3 Series.

Plus it's got a Porsche-like N/A boxer engine.

But it's more expensive than the ST...

haha I wasn't on it for me! i was on it for you

i can't sell both M3s. it feels wrong even selling one. every time i drive one i remember how good it is at certain things.

i have some mod ideas for the E90: i want to get a tasteful (not giant) carbon fiber lip on the rear bumper to replace the white one from the factory. and i want a tastefully done CF splitter up front.

and i want to paint the brake calipers blue

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari

....what color is your E46?

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 21:59

Kinja'd!!!0

That's my car!!! That's exactly it. Same wheels even.

The E46 is dark metallic gray.

So I can tell you about the car I found as long as I don't link to it. That's not bad, right?

Black on black Ferrari 360 Coupe 6MT.

High miles - about 50K.

About $68K.

Great condition paint and interior for the miles.

After market exhaust.

Ferrari approved (with docs to prove!) ECU tune that's also CA SMOG legal.

Maybe they'd take $55K for it and give me $23K for the E46 in a trade? I mean how many people will take a risk on a high-mileage Ferrari?

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 22:02

Kinja'd!!!1

WTF WHY DID YOU TELL ME ABOUT THIS

This is an amazing deal, the only bad thing is the milage. If you get it inspected and make sure it's had all it's major services you should....

*sigh*

....you should totally fucking go for it.

Maybe show it to a Ferrari forum (or even oppo) to gauge whether it's a good find.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 22:12

Kinja'd!!!0

they said they welcome inspections. hmm

i don'd necessarily mind high mileage. i kind of like cars that have high mileage but are priced right. they have had fun, not been locked in garages. their souls are happier.

i don't want to post it to an F forum, ask oppo or ask doug about it. that would be too far down my addiction steps

for now i'll just dream about it a bit :)

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 22:15

Kinja'd!!!0

I like high milage better in some cases because the engineers themselves always say that if the cars are driven frequently it makes them last so much longer.

Just sleep on it, wait a week, and see if it's still for sale. If it is, then you should take those steps.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 22:20

Kinja'd!!!0

low miles are just good if you have to sell later

that's good advice. i will put it out of my mind for a week.

oh i know i'll get the damn termite work done at the old house. i need to get it done before i can drop the price again to sell it or rent it out. tenting it and having dry rot fixed won't be cheap. should get that expense in the past...

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 22:22

Kinja'd!!!0

That sounds expensive. Do that so you won't have to think about it anymore.

I just thought of a joke.

You know why your dad said that the house you're trying to sell wasn't finished?

Because there isn't a Ferrari in the Garage.

Ba-dum, tssssss

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 22:24

Kinja'd!!!0

haha

but actually what he said is that the house i live in isn't furnished. which is true, lol

it's looking like renting it out will be better than selling it right now. which might be a good thing. cause if i sell it i'll put ALL of the proceeds into an expensive car, haha

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 22:25

Kinja'd!!!1

You should just trade the house into the dealer in exchange for a car.

You can do that right? Right?

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 22:32

Kinja'd!!!0

haha i wish!

the funny thing is that if it wasn't for all the debt i have the proceeds of selling that house would pay for a very fancy car, even though it would sell at a loss. i had put a big down payment into the loan and paid the mortgage for the past 9 years. i might only have $50K or so left after paying off my debts, which would only be enough for the down payment on a fancy car.

so if i rent it out i will have motivation to not buy any super expensive cars and instead pay off my debt. if i can do that in the next couple years and then sell i'll have a fair chunk of cash to spend. it might not cover a brand new 458 blue light special but it could cover a used exotic. i know it would be dumb to put all that money into a car but i'm an oppohaulic!

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 22:36

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, that sounds like something you should do. Better you pay off the loan slowly instead of getting a big chunk of cash that's just asking to be spent. And let's face it. You have a 911, an M3, and another M3. You're in the top 3% of opponaut car status. You're the fucking man! I'm sure another few years won't hurt.

I just thought of something. If you keep the E90 long enough I might buy it off you.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/17/2014 at 22:52

Kinja'd!!!0

Thank you! And I do know how fortunate I am. I don't want to upgrade the E46 with a cheap, mid price or expensive exotic because I need to. But only cause I'm an addict ;)

But you're right I shouldn't do anything right now. Only thing I should do is sell the E46 to pay off debt faster. I should make goals and achieve them.

That would actually be awesome if you bought the E90 one day. I love it so much and don't want to part with it. If I did I would want it to go to an opponaut so it could give joy and live on inside the oppouniverse!

Kinja'd!!! Brian Silvestro > Manuél Ferrari
02/17/2014 at 22:54

Kinja'd!!!1

At least I'd know it was coming from a real enthusiast! I love the bodystyle so much. If you ever going to sell it, let me know. You should just throw a turbo on your 911 and a giant obnoxious wing on the back, then track it all day. It'll satisfy your needs at first, then it'll break.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
02/18/2014 at 00:11

Kinja'd!!!0

Haha I don't have to remember to tell you if I'm going to sell it, because I'd be bouncing trade ideas off you way before I actually did sell!

And the good thing is that if you ever bought a car from me I'd tell you everything about it, both good and bad. I'm not going to lie about anything. That would make you hate me. And you'd tell everyone about it and the Oppo community would shun me!

I can't turbo the 911, because smog stuff... If I could I would actually do the supercharger kit. It's cheaper and better sound!
